The original plan
The first draft of anything is sh!#, said Mr. Hemingway. We agree, mostly. The picture shows our initial rough idea. Once we get to the USA things get murky: Continue north to Alaska? Follow the Route 66 and then go to New York? Cycle along the Gulf of Mexico and then up the East Coast?
For those wondering: The map is an old depiction of the global tea trade (red sections). We like it because it shows Valparaíso, Francesco's home town.
The guiding principles of our route choice
First things first: We don't have any strict guiding principles other than riding our bikes and not ruining our relationship in the process of doing so.
That said, we'd like to maximize the following (in no particular order):
Travelling through remote areas
Eating good food
Spending time in mountainous areas
Riding flat and fast sections
Some of the points are not in complete harmony with each other. We know. That's why our final route is somewhat difficult to predict.
